Creativity
“Every child is an artist. The problem is staying an artist when you grow up.”
-Pablo Picasso

The Arrival
In the beginning, I was teaching second graders the basics of reading, writing and math, but I really wanted to integrate some color into bland curriculum material. Knowing active seven years olds, I felt concerned over the level of chaos that might befall me if I handed them paint brushes and paint. I wanted to share my love of art with my students, but I knew it had to be carefully orchestrated.
This is when my dear friend, a skilled educator and fellow creative took my hand and guided me through the steps that turned the mundane into magic. Not only did my mundane turn to magic, but my students sparkled! Those little cherubs who struggled emotionally or academically suddenly found a sense of calm and experienced a new found success.
Creativity is essential, and it comes in many forms. When it arrives, invite it and see where it takes you.
